Pupils at Iqra Academy achieved impressive results as 56 per cent accomplish­ed a Level 4-9 in both English and maths.

Iqra Academy pupils saw particular success in Arabic, in which 100 per cent of students achieved A*-C.

Among the top performing pupils were two Syrian refugees who, with the support of the school, both achieved A* grades in Arabic. Significan­t achievemen­ts were also seen in Religious Education and Urdu, with 100 per cent of students achieving a good pass grade (4-9) in both, and English, with 89 per cent of students achieving a grade 4 or above in English Language and 78 per cent in English Literature.

Michael Wright, principal at Iqra Academy, said: “I am delighted with the academy’s GCSE results.

“Our students have worked exceptiona­lly hard and have been incredibly dedicated to their studies. “We are a close-knit community at Iqra Academy and I would like to thank everyone who has been part of this success, including students, parents and staff. I look forward to seeing what our students go on to do next!”
