Pupils and staff at Ormiston Bushfield Academycel­ebrated their best ever recorded GCSE results at the academy with significan­t improvemen­t across key subjects. Overall, 60 per cent of students achieved a Grade 4 or higher in English and in maths, with a 4 defined by the Government as a pass (equivalent to the old Grade C).

This is a three-percentage point increase on last year’s figure.

Alongside the significan­t progress achieved across the board, the results in English were particular­ly impressive again this year, with 73 per cent of students achieving at least a Grade 4 or above - a five percentage point increase on last year. Additional­ly more than half of students (52%) achieved a Grade 5 or higher in English, defined by the Government as a “good pass”.

Record results were also achieved in maths, with 65 per cent of students achieving at least a Grade 4 or above, another increase on last year’s figure.

The academy said in its press release to the media that it is incredibly proud of all of its students and amongst the many successes Ormiston Bushfield gave special mention to:

Kacper Kozak, who achieved the top Grade 9 in four subjects including maths, biology, chemistry and physics, as well as an A* in Polish.

Ben Cherry, who has secured a Grade 9 in maths and history, a Grade 8 in biology, chemistry and physics, a distinctio­n in business enterprise, alongside a Grade 5 in 10 other subjects. Blanka Jarmoszko, who achieved a Grade 9 in maths, biology, chemistry and physics, as well as an A* in Polish and product design, and Grade 7s and above in 11 additional subjects.

Ellie Peacock who is celebratin­g receiving a Grade 9 in English Literature, biology and chemistry, alongside a Grade 8 in maths, French, English Language and history.

She secured a Grade 7 and above in her 11 other subjects. All of these students will now progress on to the academy’s ‘High Flyers’ programme, to prepare them to apply to the most challengin­g and demanding university courses in the country.

Principal at Ormiston Bushfield Academy Dennis Kirwan said: “We are absolutely delighted that our students have achieved record-breaking results at GCSE again this year. The results are a real testament to their hard work, talent and dedication, supported by their teachers and parents, and they fully deserve their outstandin­g grades.

“We look forward to continuing to work closely with our students as they progress into their sixth form and continue with their studies.”
