Freddie flies home to claim Engand glory

Nene Valley’s Freddie Fraser won gold over the 80m hurdles with a sizzling time of 10.91 in the England Athletics Under 15 and Under 17 Track and Field Championsh­ips at Bedford, writes Barry Warne.

Lydia Church went one better winning two golds in the disability championsh­ip. Church, throwing into the teeth of a gale, registered a distance of 10.54m in the discus and 25.03m for the shot.

Francesca Fenwick claimed bronze in the Under 15 high jump with a clearance of 1.61m.

On his return from injury Will Kong recorded a new PB of 37.15 when finishing second in his heat of the Under 15 300m. Kong was unable to repeat his fine form in the final, coming home seventh in 38.61.

Katie Calcutt just missed out on a podium place finishing fourth in the Under 15 hurdles with a time of 12.22. Calcutt also took part in the long jump placing 12th.

Jason Bogle failed to make the Under 15 boys 200m final by one place with a 24.17 clocking in his heat.

Archie Rainbow finished eighth in the Under 17 800m, while Joe Prince was seventh in the Under 17 400m.

Tim Foord failed to advance from his heat in the Under 15 300m and in the Under 15 800m Flo Brill crossed the line in 10th position.

Donovan Capes took seventh place in the Under 15 shot.

Peterborou­gh AC’s Elizabeth Taylor breezed through her heat of the Under 15 300m with a time of 42.03, but finished seventh in the final.

DOWNHAM MARKET 10k

There was local interest in Monday’s Downham Market 10k and Peterborou­gh AC provided two of the frontrunne­rs.

Kirk Brawn finished fourth in 36:29.9 with Simon Mead following him home in sixth position with a 37:20.3 clocking.

Bushfield Joggers’ Brian Corleys clocked 39.36.8 for 11th place while Martin Stevens of Werrington Joggers came in 21st in a time of 40:57.0.

Lisa Marriott from Ramsey Road Runners finished as second lady in 41:25.4.
