Three wins out of three but the attackers need to find the net
Football - Peterborough Sports make a flying start
Jimmy Dean has challenged his mis-firing Peterborough Sports frontmen to get among the goals.
The city side have enjoyed a perfect start to the Southern League Division One Central season with three successive victories.
But none of his array of attacking talents – strikers Mark Jones, Avelino Vieira and Jake Newman, and widemen Josh Moreman and Jordan Brown – have found the net as yet.
Midfielder Lewis Hilliard scored in their opening day win at Berkhamsted before they saw off Welwyn Garden City thanks to a strike from midfielder Josh McCammon and an own goal.
Full-back Mitch Griffiths, centre-back Paul Malone and McCammon then provided the goals in a 3-1 derby triumph at local rivals Yaxley on Bank Holiday Monday.
Dean said: “I’m delighted with the start, but we’ve definitely not clicked as yet. In fact there have only really been two halves all season – the sec- ond against Welwyn and the first at Yaxley – where we’ve put in good performances.
“We’ve shown we are hard to beat, but we’ve so much more to offer as an attacking force. None of our strikers or wide players have scored yet and I’m sure that will change very soon.”
Sports host basement side Kidlington, who are yet to pick up a point and have already conceded 19 goals in three league defeats, at the Bee Arena this Saturday (3pm).
They then entertain Stamford AFC, who also have three wins from three in the Northern League East Division, in a Tuesday replay in the FA Cup after the sides battled out a 1-1 draw in the preliminary round last Saturday. Stuart Wall headed their leveller against the Daniels.
Defeat at the hands of Sports completed a miserable weekend for Yaxley after they lost 7-5 in an FA Cup tie at lower-level Daventry Town.
They go to another team with a 100 per-cent record, Thame, in Division One Central on Saturday before hosting higher-level St Ives Town in the League Challenge Cup on Tuesday.
