Grant McCann seems certain to receive a hero’s welcome from Posh fans, despite his sacking as club boss as last season’s League One promotion push started to falter.

McCann the Posh player was more successful. He made 185 appearances for Posh and played a huge part in a promotion-winning League One campaign in his first full season at the club in 2010-11, scoring 13 goals from midfield that season. Set-piece specialist McCann (38) scored 36 goals for Posh in total, many of them spectacular and several of them important.

His managerial record was far from a disaster, winning 42 and losing 36 of his 105 matches as Posh boss.
