Having already been stitchedup once Daniel Peart did not believe tearful wife Charlotte when she told him they had just become millionaires.

But the ecstatic couple from Whittlesey are now hunting for a new house with their three children after winning £1 million on the EuroMillions HotPicks.

Admin worker Charlotte (28) had bought the online ticket for last week’s draw on a whim with the final £1.50 in their Lottery account.

She said: “I was at home about to start work. I was just having a coffee and thought ‘I will just go on and check the account’, thinking I’ve won £3. But when I saw the numbers I cried. I was laughing and crying at the same time.

“I actually thought I was still dreaming. It was in the morning and I’m not a morning person!

“He did not believe me. He said ‘I can’t talk to you right now love’ and ended up putting his brother on the phone.”

Self-employed carpenter Daniel’s misgivings were based on a wind-up three weeks earlier when Charlotte had pretended she had won £250,000 on a scratchcard.

The 27-year-old, who was on a busy building site when his wife of five years called, said: “I told her she was lying to me. We like to wind each other up.

“She sent me a screen shot (photo) of the winning ticket - I opened it then I could not talk. I was too stunned. It still feels unreal. It’s not sunk in at all.

“From being a child I always told my mum I was going to win the Lottery. Then when we got together I used to tell her and I used to tell close friends.”

To celebrate the big win the couple have already bought hoverboards for two of their children and a Nintendo Switch games console for the other. The hoverboard was so much fun that Daniel had to go and get one for himself.

There are already a few planned treats including an improvement on Charlotte’s Ford Kuga and new golf clubs for Daniel, as well as an upgrade on their three bedroom home.

Charlotte said: “We made lots of sacrifices and saved so hard for the deposit for this home so I’ll always be really proud that we managed to do that, but it will be so nice to have a bigger place where the children don’t need to share a bedroom. We’ve no plans to leave the area, all our friends and family are here and we love it.

“As well as our new home we are looking for an investment property. Daniel has always wanted to start property developing so he’s giving up work to look for the first place. In the longer term we might even try and build our own home.”

Remarkably Charlotte and Daniel, who met at NealeWade Academy in March, are not the first big Lottery winners from Whittlesey after dad and daughter Derek and Lorraine Daniels won £729,026 on the Lotto in 2016.

“I actually thought I was still dreaming.” Charlotte Peart
