Peterborough has always attracted its fair share of heavyweight political visitors – nothing to to do with it often being a marginal seat!

In the interests of balance today’s pictures include from leaders of the three main political party.

Top right shows former Conservative Prime Minister John Major who was MP for neighbouring Huntingdon.

It looks like an election count and I believe was taken somewhere in Peterborough.

Does anyone know the exact location?

The next picture shows former Labour leader Michael Foot with, among others, excity councillor Charles Swift. The next photograph shows ex-Liberal leader Paddy Ashdown at Peterborough Library. Does anyone know the purpose of their visits?

Today’s other pictures are a random bunch.

Above left shows the recently renamed Broadway theatre when it was the Odeon Cinema.

Middle row centre shows the opening of the city’s running track. Mr Swift makes another appearance among the dignitaries.

Do you know when this was and who was the runner carrying the torch?

The next picture along shows the 1954 intake of apprentices at engineers Baker Perkins.

The picture right shows a sketch looking down from Long Causeway and, according to the caption, shows the location for the new town hall, which was eventually built on the other side of Bridge Street.

The final image is of a Miss Dot Bond from Ramsey who won a Daily Mail beauty contest and was judged to be “the prettiest girl in Huntingdonshire’’.

I wonder if anybody remembers her?
