Help Sea Cadets solve time capsule mystery

-

The Peterborough Sea Cadets are trying to trace original members of the group - and solve a time capsule mystery after they found pictures and documents when their meeting hall was refurbished.

The Peterborough Sea Cadets were formed in 1942, and meet at the Old Customs House on Bridge Street.

Major Andy Tannock, chairman of the group, said: “The building is still the headquarters of the Sea and Royal Marine Cadets, during the past few months the building has undergone extensive refurbishment of the exterior and redecoration of the interior.

“During the redecoration a photograph of the original ship’s company was moved and a list of all the young men’s names from the original ship’s company was found enclosed in it

“Are you one of the original ship’s company, does any of their families remember their father, grandfather talking about the unit?

“Also we were handed a group of 12 photographs of different young men, some of them could be your relatives.

“We would love to hear from you, and if possible that you could visit the unit to see how it has changed.

“We still have one member of the original ship’s company with us Lt (scc) Colin Marshall R.N.R.

“We were told that there is a time capsule hidden within the building but we cannot find any information on where it is, can you help?”

Anyone with information that can help the cadets should call 01733 551713 , or email tannocka@yahoo.co.uk
