The doors might remain closed temporarily at the newly renamed Peterborough Theatre but life goes on it seems at the adjoining Broadway Suite, with Sundays’ roast dinner restaurant in full swing, and two well-known city organisations performing this month. Peterborough’s newest playwright, Sean Flynn, is delighted that the Peterborough Revellers will be performing the premiere performance of his first play. Entitled ‘Keep Mum’ this brand new comedy centres around a dearly departed grandma and her controversial will that effects mainly the granddaughter of the family, her father who has absolutely nothing to say, and her alcohol loving grandad who has a lot of strong things to say about how his beloved wife’s legacy has been distributed until she comes back to intervene from the other side. Clive Read, who is directing and has been well known within local theatre for many years, is as equally delighted to be involved with this highly amusing comedy, written by and performed by locals for Peterborough’s theatregoing public. Keep Mum runs from September 27 to 29 at 7.30pm.

Tickets cost £7.50 and can include fish and chips brought to your table during the interval for an extra £5.00 if required. Phone Sylvia on 01733 755176. The following night (30th) Peterborough Jazz Club will continue with its concerts at The Broadway Suite.

A very special season of five concerts has been arranged, the first featuring the Simon Spillet Quartet with a ‘Tribute to the Tenors’.

The multi-award winning virtuoso saxophonist, Simon Spillett, and his band will be playing music associated with some of the great jazz tenor saxophonists over the years: Coleman Hawkins, Ben Webster, Dexter Gordon, John Coltrane, Sonny Rollins, Joe Henderson and others, including Tubby Hayes and Ronnie Scott.

On stage will be Simon Spillett (tenor saxophone), Robin Aspland (piano), Alec Dankworth (double bass) and Clark Tracey (drums). Tickets are £14 and will be available at the door as usual.
