Record crowd witness a great football advert

-

Peterborough Sports face a second tough FA Cup battle in the space of four days on Saturday.

The city side triumphed 4-3 in a ding dong affair with Stamford AFC in a preliminary round replay that was a great advert for the local nonleague game on Tuesday.

A Sports record crowd of 351 at the Bee Arena watched the home side storm into a 2-0 lead, get pegged back to 2-2, fall behind after Stamford had been reduced to 10 men and then score twice in added time to claim a thrilling victory.

Avelino Vieira bagged a hattrick with Josh Moreman firing home the winning goal in the 94th minute.

Rob Morgan, Joe Burgess and Eliot Putman scored for the Daniels. Putman shot Stamford ahead for the only time six minutes from time after Chris Salt had been sent off.

But life doesn’t get any easier for Sports on Saturday when they travel to Essex to face Basildon United in the first qualifying round. They play at the same level as Sports and have also won every league game so far, a record the city side stretched with a 4-0 success over bottom club Kidlington last weekend.

Moreman (2), Vieira and Lewis Hilliard scored the goals in that Evo Stik Southern League game.

Wisbech also made progress in the FA Cup but required a penalty shootout after a goalless draw with lower level Sileby Rangers at the Fenland Stadium. The Fenmen travel to Great Wakering Rovers for a qualifying round tie on Saturday.

Deeping Rangers lost their replay 3-0 at AFC Rushden & Diamonds.
