Peterborough’s unsung heroes will be celebrated at a glittering awards ceremony in the city - and we need your nominations for amazing residents who deserve a prestigious prize. The annual Pride in Peterborough awards will be held later this year, with old and young rewarded for outstanding work in their communities. There are a number of categories open for nominations from Child of Courage to Senior Citizen of the Year - and Peterborough Telegraph readers can have their say on who should be shortlisted. Mark Edwards, Editor of the Peterborough Telegraph said: “The Pride awards are a fantastic opportunity to congratulate all of these community heroes for everything they do in and around our city. “We can be extremely proud to have such people in our area, and I am glad that we have the chance to celebrate and thank them with these awards. “Readers tell us on a regular basis how proud they are of Peterborough and how individuals in the city have made a real difference, so we are delighted to be able to celebrate this, and give these people a well deserved pat on the back.” The nominations will be deliberated over by a panel of judges, and winners will be honoured at a glittering awards ceremony at the Holiday Inn Thorpe Wood in December, hosted by BBC Radio Presenter Melvyn Prior. Last year’s winners included Elisha Hills-Steedman, Caleb Hyland, and Halle Heriot, who were joint winners of the Child of Courage award. Elisha (10) showed incredible bravery after being knocked over on Bourges Boulevard by a drug driver who mounted the pavement, while Caleb bravely battled leukaemia aged just five. Halle was diagnosed with cerebral palsy as a baby, and her family battled to raise thousands for an operation she needed. The Lifetime Achievement award went to Colin Martin, who raised thousands of pounds for a range of good causes across the city. The Community Spirit award went to Catherine and George Bennett, who organise the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal in Peterborough every year.
