Rail delays ‘unacceptable’

The Peterborough Evening Telegraph - - NEWS -

A government minister has promised lessons will be learned after a bungled new rail timetable left Peterborough with an “unacceptable” rail service.

Jo Johnson, Minister of State at the Department for Transport, said he could “only imagine the frustration that passengers felt over the unacceptable service”.

His response was delivered to leader of Peterborough City Council Cllr John Holdich, and chief executive Gillian Beasley, after they expressed their concerns about the “huge, negative impact on the city” from rail delays after Govia Thameslink Railway and Great Northern introduced a new timetable in May.

The pair had been instructed to write to the government department by councillors.

Mr Johnson said: “The rail industry has collectively failed to deliver for the passengers it serves.” But, he said he was “pleased” commuters will be able to receive compensation.
