-

Memento Mori (Anthology 19782018) (Mute) Album

This release celebrates the 40th anniversary of the recording career of Barry Adamson, one of Britain’s maverick pop talents. The Manchester songwriter first came to notice as part of brilliant punk pioneers Magazine. He co-wrote the stunning Parade in 1978 which is included on this compilation. From there he became a founding member of the Bad Seeds with Nick Cave, and with whom he penned From Her To Eternity (also included here). Adamson released his first solo album Moss Side Story in 1988 and has since put out eight more albums, one of which 1992’s Soul Murder was nominated for a Mercury Music Prize. He is also an in demand writer of music for film and has worked with a host of top directors including Derek Jarman, Danny Boyle, David Lynch and Oliver Stone. He has also branched out to writing and directing and, of course, scoring his own short films.

The range and scope of Adamson’s music is staggering and this anthology gives but a taste of his many talents.
