A repertoire of favourite songs

-

Peterborough Take Note Community Choir hosted their second highly successful concert of the year at Queen Katharine Academy.

In the week that saw the choir celebrate their fifth birthday, they performed a repertoire of their favourite songs.

Conducting Take Note was their new Musical Director Robin Norman, head of music and performing arts at Ken Stimpson Community School in Werrington.

At the piano was their new accompanist Adam Wilson, organ scholar at Peterborough Cathedral.

A ‘surround sound’ performance of the South African folk song Shosholoza started the night’s performance. The appreciative audience enjoyed a variety of music by composers ranging from Verdi and Mozart to Paul Simon and Labi Siffre. The toe-tapping Duke Ellington number ‘It Don’t mean a Thing’ was a firm favourite.

Robin also delighted everyone with a solo tuba rendition of Oystein Baads-vik’s intriguing piece “Fnugg”.

Also under the direction of Robin were performances by The Ken Stimpson School Choir and Ken Stimpson A Capella choir.

The performance was drawn to a close by the combined choirs of Take Note and Ken Stimpson School, including “Sing”, written for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Gary Barlow.
