‘Motor SPORT not a sport?’ Clueless!

-

Reaction to recent columns...

Even if the referee books a player for simulation the FA need to start clamping down on cheats with additional punishments for the player and/or club.

@Stilton Bargains

We (Man City) are playing in third gear in most matches and (before Sunday) had not conceded in 599 minutes since September 1.

We are a punched in goal at Wolves and a missed pen at Anfield away from a 100% record. And we have Kevin De Bruyne to come back.

Motor ‘SPORT’ not considered a proper sport?! Lewis Hamilton not hero of the week? Clueless. @W_ll_am Don’t always agree with Swanny, but spot on re motor sport. Joe Ward was a far more deserving winner of ‘hero of the week’ than Lewis Hamilton.

Excellent article re VAR Alan. Like you I really don’t like the idea of the game being stopped so often, however I believe we are at the point with the standard of refereeing that we have to bring in VAR. The quicker it comes to League One the better! @Dave45000152

Do you think on pitch referees will no longer exist at some point in the future?

@HolyTrinityPUFC

Anthony Martial nearly landed in the front row of the stand when he dived to win a penalty against Everton.

VAR can’t come soon enough. @MikeBarnes England’s rugby union international with South Africa last weekend was a huge waste of time. Both teams were missing too many players to read too much into a tight game.

As far as an indicator to World Cup prospects it was a pointless exercise. Certainly New Zealand, who are due to batter England this weekend, won’t be quaking in their boots. Tryless England were a 50/50 penalty decision in the last minute against Owen Farrell (above) from losing which at least would have led increasingly irritating coach Eddie Jones to pipe down.

Just why Jones decided to antagonise the media a few days before an inevitable thumping by the world’s best team is beyond me. Maybe he’s just a bit thick. Or he wants the sack.

BOLT WAS A WASTE OF PACE

Thank goodness the coach of Aussie team Central Coast Mariners saw past the hype and publicity and decided against offering fast runner Usain Bolt (above) a professional football contract. Bolt had as much chance of becoming a pro striker as Per Mertesacker competing as an Olympic sprinter.

DON’T BLAME THE REF THIS TIME

I’m no fan of the top referees, but those hounding Lee Probert for cautioning Demari Gray for taking his shirt off to reveal a message to the departed Leicester City owner after scoring a goal at Cardiff are blaming the wrong man. Probert would have sought guidance for such an outcome and he has simply obeyed his bosses rather than trust his own instincts.
