Learners celebrate with opera singer
City College Peterborough held its annual Celebration of Learning event at the historical Peterborough Cathedral for the third year running.
Proud parents and families watched on as learners collected their scrolls of achievement in a packedout cathedral, with over 500 people in attendance.
The college’s Celebration of Learning recognises all levels of achievement from its learners, no matter how big or small they may seem to be.
This becomes more apparent by the diverse group of learners in attendance, which included apprentices, 16-19 learners, adult learners and supported adult learners, celebrating their achievements throughout the year.
Special guest speakers on the night included Councillor John Holdich, leader of Peterborough City Council, and Mayor James Palmer, elected Mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority, who presented the scrolls of achievement to the learners.
The event was topped off with a moving performance by internationally renowned opera singer from Italy, Maria Gabriella Cianci.
Pat Carrington, Principal of City College Peterborough opened the event and spoke about City College Peterborough and its own achievements and developments, including launching the new college film.
Pat announced the special awards for students and staff who have gone above and beyond throughout the year in their category.
These included Adult Learner of the Year, Young Learner of the Year, Employee of the Year, Supported Person of the Year and Apprentice of the Year.
