City band reveal one-off Met gig

-

APeterborough band who are just about to go on a UK tour with Indie/ rock legends Razorlight have announced a special one-off Christmas date at The Met Lounge.

The band, whose previous appearance at The Met earlier this year was close to a sell out, will be rocking the Bridge Street venue on December 20

Airways have been described as “a young, refreshing and exciting indie rock band with hints of Arctic Monkeys, Cage The Elephant, Gorillaz and Twenty One Pilots”.

The band from Peterborough via Chicago, consist of Jake (singer/guitarist), Alex (guitarist), Jamie (bass) and Brian (drums). Having played Reading and Leeds before their oneyear anniversary as a band in 2016, their story is an unusual one. Singer Jake ran into Brian in LA by chance when spending some time there writing music, and upon finding out he was a drummer asked him to join his up until then non-existing band on the spot.

Two months later Brian stood on Jake’s doorstep in Peterborough and Airways was born. Still short of a guitarist and bassist, Jake recruited lifelong friend Alex and Birmingham based Jamie to join their newly founded band.

Along the way, they’ve supported a diverse mix of artists on sold out UK tours like Nothing But Thieves, Sunset Sons and The Hunna. Airways also managed to enlist Nothing But Thieves guitarist Dom Craik as coproducer for their debut EP as well as Julian Emery, who is best known for his work with Nothing But Thieves and Lissie.

In 2017, the band spent most of their own money applying for visas so they could play a tour booked for the USA – one that was expected to help break the band in the country. However the application got declined without an explanation and the band wrote a single about their experience and have recently released it as a new track – the single ‘Alien’ has had over 300,000 streaming views since its release.

First support comes from Lincolnshire based band A Story to Tell.
