How on earth did Posh let an easy win slip away?

-

Six mad minutes ruined 45 pretty good ones as Posh threw certain victory away in their second round FA Cup tie against Bradford City at the ABAX Stadium.

Posh were so dominant of timid opposition in the firsthalf it seemed inevitable that a handsome home win would ease some of the irritating negativity around the club.

Ivan Toney, after a sweeping lenghth-of-the-field move and a superb long pass from Marcus Maddison, and Siriki Dembele, with a composed finish had eased Posh into a 2-0 interval lead that looked set to be extended given a similar level of performance.

Unfortunately, and not for the first time this season, Posh appeared to assume they had done enough and attempted to cruise through the rest of the game.

And for the most part they did. Bradford did nothing with an increased share of possession to suggest they would even claim a consolation goal, but then centreback Kelvin Mellor stuck one into the top corner from 25 yards and substitute Luca Colville let fly from a similar distance and watched the ball fly into the centre of the net after deflecting off Rhys Bennett. Unlucky yes, but if Posh had kept pressing as they had before the break they would have been too far ahead for two optimistic pots at goal to have mattered.

And managing a game is supposed to be a strength.

Two optimistic pot shots at goal shouldn’t have mattered.
