Bus driver and passengers hurt in head-on crash
A bus driver was taken to hospital and a number or passengers were injured after a head on collision with a car in a Peterborough street.
The crash happened at about 10am on Saturday on Staniland Way, Werrington, and involved a double decker Stagecoach bus and a blue Ford Fiesta.
Both the bus and the Fiesta left the road, with the bus colliding with a tree.
Police, fire and rescue and ambulance crews were all called to the scene.
The driver of the bus needed hospital treatment as a result of the crash, while a number of passengers needed medical treatment at the scene for minor injuries.
Both the bus and the Fiesta were badly damaged as a result of the crash.
A police spokesman said the driver of the Fiesta suffered minor injuries.
Ross Burton, Commercial Director for Stagecoach East, said they had carried out an investigation into the collision and examined video footage from the bus.
Mr Burton said: “According to CCTV footage, the bus driver was not at fault and the bus was proceeding correctly along the carriageway when the incident occurred.
“The driver received minor injuries as a result of the crash and was taken to hospital for a check-up.
“No bus passengers required hospital treatment.”
Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service said they had to cut one casualty free from the wreckage, with crews returning to base before mid day.
A spokesman for Cambridgeshire police said they were still investigating the collision, and appealed for witnesses who saw what had happened to come forward.
The police spokesman said neither driver was arrested at the scene.
They initially said one of the drivers was reported without revealing which driver - but later confirmed this was not the case.
The road was closed while recovery of the vehicles took place, but was re-opened at about 12.30pm, causing disruption on the roads around the area.
Anyone with information about the collision is asked to call Cambridgeshire police on 101.
