FIRM NAMED AS ONE OF UK’S FASTEST GROWING
A sandwich maker with a base in Peterborough has warned of the shortterm uncertainties caused by Brexit. Greencore, which operates a warehouse in on Venture Park in Stirling Way, Bretton, says the decision to leave the European Union has caused some anxiety for the business. Releasing its annual trading results, the company stated: “Although the Group believes the risks from Brexit are manageable in the medium-term, the near-term challenges associated with a ‘no withdrawal agreement’ are uncertain.
The Dublin headquartered manufacturer of convenience foods from sandwiches to sauces and pickles, saw sales rise 4.2 per cent to £1.5 billion and pre-tax profit increase to £17.8 million from £15.8 million for the year to September 28.
It will give back £509 million to shareholders following the sale of its US business for £817 million.
The company added: “We monitor closely the potential implications of Brexit on the business, particularly in the areas of volume, material sourcing and labour availability.
“We have been engaged in Brexit planning since the referendum. A team meets on an ongoing basis to assess Brexit-related risks, build mitigation plans, test alternative scenarios and support dialogue with our customers, government, the wider industry and other stakeholders.”
