Fleetwood fans gutted to lose a ‘brilliant’ player

-

Kyle Dempsey’s departure from Fleetwood has been mourned by fans of the Cod Army.

One fan told the Peterborough Telegraph: “Kyle’s been bloody brilliant. Fleetwood fans are in uproar. He was a regular starter under Uwe Rosler and then John Sheridan.

“He was the young player of the year in his loan spell from Huddersfield in 2016-17.

“Joey Barton has only given him five starts and wanted more goals and an attacking mindset from him, but he barely gave him a chance.

“The writing was on the wall at Luton in December when he was sent on in the 11th minute and then brought off in the second half.

“Kyle’s clearly not in Barton’s plans and Fleetwood need to free up cash to recruit in January.”

Dempsey has spoken of his frustration with the current season, but he is concentrating on the future and he’s thrilled to be joining a club who are firmly in the League One promotion race.

“This is a great opportunity for me,” Dempsey stated when he was unveiled on Monday. “I was pleased to hear about Peterborough’s interest a couple of weeks ago. The League One table shows how strong a club they are and it’s the ideal opportunity to turn a frustrating season into a successful one.

“I’d played week in week out for two full seasons until this one.

“I only missed one game last season and I have experience of the play-offs from a couple of seasons ago when Fleetwood were beaten by Bradford.

“My aim now is to get into the team on Saturday and then stay there and help the club into the play-offs and then promotion.

“I hope to bring plenty of energy as well as goals and assists.

“I’ve been a bit shy in front of goal in the last few seasons and that has to change. The manager wants me to be a box-to-box midfielder and that suits me.”

Dempsey was ineligible for last night’s Checkatrade Trophy tie at Chelsea.

He is expected to be in the squad for Saturday’s League One clash at home to Rochdale. Posh:
