Lafferty loves doing the ‘graveyard shift’

Daniel Lafferty insists he will come on leaps and bounds after making a 90-minute debut forPoshatM­iddlesbrou­ghlast weekend.

It was a first full game of the season for the Northern Ireland internatio­nal left-back Callum Cooke and Isaac Buckley-Ricketts scored for Posh who were twice ahead before finally being pegged back by an 88th equaliser.

New signing Kyle Dempsey was named man-of-the-match by who performed as a wing-back at the Riverside Stadium.

“On a personal level it was ideal to play a whole game,” Lafferty said. “I haven’t done that for a while and I’m sure I will come on fitness wise as a result.

“I enjoy playing as a wingback. Some call it the graveyard shift, but I love being able to get forward and impact the game at both ends.

“Sheffield United have played with wing-backs since I joined them two-and-a-half years ago so I’m familiar with the role. Posh boss Steve Evans.

“We were the better team for 45 minutes as we defended solidly and we looked dangerous in transition.

“We played so well they changed their shape at halftime and unfortunat­ely they scored two quick goals and it’s a long way back then against a top Championsh­ip side.

“Peterborou­gh actually tried to sign me in the summer, but at that time I thought over 1,000 tickets which are currently being sold through the ‘Priority Points’ system. Fans with over 400 points can purchase tickets from today (Thursday) while over 230 points is enough to start purchasing I had a chance of playing for Sheffield United.

“It hasn’t worked out that way so the timing is now right. I want to be playing games at my age and my aim is to compete for a place in this team and then do all I can to help them get promotion.

“I’ve played for the manager before so I know what he wants from his players. I can’t wait to get started.”

Lafferty was due to make his second Posh appearance at Chelsea in the Checkatrad­e Trophy last night (Wednesday). tickets tomorrow. Any remaining tickets will go on general sale from 9am on Friday. Prices range from £8-£26 and are available from the usual club outlets. Over 400 tickets were sold in two days.

There’s no quick fix and there’s no miracle money tree to invest in a lot of players, so I’ll work with this group and I’ll try to bring in one or two, and hopefully we can turn the corner together.
