Peterborough United boss Steve Evans believes Lee Tomlin could be the final piece of his League One promotion puzzle.

Tomlin finally joined Posh on loan from Premier League Cardiff City this week after a 10-month long pursuit spearheaded by chairman Darragh MacAnthony.

Evans is naturally delighted to have such a gifted performer in a squad boosted by four loan signings inside six days. Defenders Ben White and Daniel Lafferty and midfielder Kyle Dempsey are the other players to join a squad seventh in League One.

All are expected to take part in Saturday’s League One fixture with Rochdale at the ABAX Stadium.

“I loved Lee Tomlin the footballer when I was just a fan of the club,” Evans stated. “And I am sure I will love him again as a manager.

“Lee is a very talented player who joins the many other talented players in the squad.

“Lee just wants to enjoy his football again and he is convincedhe will be able to do that here. If we can get him back to anywhere near his best he will be a huge help to us in our bid to get back to the Championship. He’s determined to help us reach our goal.

“We need to get him a bit sharper and a bit fitter, but he’s not far off it.”

Tomlin was expected to play some part in last night’s (Wednesday) Checkatrade Trophy tie at Chelsea.

Posh now need to offload players to stay within Financial Fairplay rules.
