Fundraising supports future projects

-

As we move forward with plans to support local and international communities in 2019, there is still time to reflect on Rotary achievements in 2018. It is partly money raised in this period that will be used to support our projects.

In December, Santa was very busy touring with his sleigh and many elves in Ramsey, Warboys and surrounding villages during the Ramsey Rotary Club’s annual charity collection.

These evening expeditions proved very popular with children and adults alike, who came out to donate to the collection tubs whilst enjoying the lights and music as Santa’s sleigh passed along the streets. Santa also was kept busy replying to letters from children. The Santa collection is a major fundraising activity for this Rotary club, with every penny donated going to good causes in Ramsey, Warboys and surrounding villages. Over the last year, Rotary has supported many youth competitions and Young Citizen awards, Ramsey Senior Citizens Christmas lunch, Ramsey & District Community Bus, Warboys Community Centre, Ramshed and other groups too numerous to list here. The club wishes to acknowledge the generous support of several local businesses last year.

Chris Sharp, Linden Homes Account Manager expressed his support for the Santa tour: “The Christmas Float organised by Ramsey Rotary Club is a highlight of the festive season and I am delighted that we could contribute to this wonderful tradition.”

Ramsey Rotarians also thank residents for their donations during the festive season which will enable Rotarians to support many local initiatives in the months to come.

They are amazed by the generosity of residents every year. Last year was no exception with a massive £8,377.98 being raised. Once Gift Aid is applied it will rise to over £10,000 – fantastic!

Rather than giving Secret Santa presents to each other, Ortons Rotarians decided to donate their gifts to residents at the New Haven Homeless Hostel in Peterborough.

Pat Bennie, Project Manager, said: “Residents were very appreciative of the ‘goodies’ (food and hampers). It raised their spirits when they were still thought of within the community, even when they may have fallen on hard times.”

Deepings Rotarians made the Wonka Day at Maxey House Care Home in Deeping Gate even sweeter by dipping in to buy two chocolate fountains.

The festive season was made more magical for the residents when the home was transformed into Wonka’s Wonderland.
