Time for a happy ending at ‘The Broadway’

-

We could all be forgiven for feeling a little underwhelmed by the announcemement that the Broadway Theatre has been taken over by Selladoor, but it is great news for the city. Selladoor is a major company with a great reputation and a strong track record - all things that have been somewhat lacking in most recent times. When the infamous Paul Parker took over in 2011 a bright new era for the Broadway was promised... without repeating the sorry details he ended up in jail and many people – including the city council – lost out. When the theatre was taken over by the Dawe Charitable Trust and leased to Performance Arts Ventures, headed by Mark Ringer in September 2017 another new era was heralded, but that too ended abruptly with shows cancelled and more disappointment. The theatre has seen great success with shows produced by Bill Kenright Ltd in short seasons delivering top shows - proving a local audience is there. Given the previous issues, the public of Peterborough could be forgiven for being a little reticent. But Selladoor produce top shows and have had success with similar venues at Barnstaple, Ilfracombe and Blackpool. They are investing in Peterborough, and another successful theatre can only boost the city’s economy and other businesses in the city centre. The Broadway has closed and the Peterborough New Theatre is opening. So now we hope the third act in this theatrical drama will have the happy ending this fine facility deserves. To Selladoor we say welcome and break a leg!
