Having fun while fundraising

It was the eleventh anniversary year that Peterborough Rotary had organised the Macmillan quiz in the area. As the mists rolled in from the Fens a cavalcade of lights from vehicles carrying participants making up 28 teams of six enthusiasts pierced the evening mist to meet at Thorney Lakes Golf Club.

Some quiz addicts never miss Tipping Point or The Chase to increase their knowledge in the hope that their two jokers gain the maximum double points in the chase for glory!

Did you know that phillumeny is the collection of matchboxes, Betty Grable insured her legs for one million dollars, the total of all numbers on a roulette wheel add up to 666 and the city known as Big Easy is New Orleans?

Such were the wide variety of questions fired at the teams.

On the same day all over the country, Macmillan holds the same quiz in many venues, all with the same brain teasers. Would you believe the winning team recorded 92points out of a possible 100?

It takes some organising with eight rounds comprising of ten questions per round and a break to serve 178 hot packs of fish and chips. The cogs on the Rotary Wheel need to run very smoothly.

Half the proceeds were donated to Macmillan and the other half will be used by Peterborough Rotary club to support their own local initiatives.

Appropriately, the total money raised in 2019 was the highest ever recorded, just under £2,000.

The fundraising does not stop there. Now the bunnies have had time to dry out from last year, Peterborough Rotary have organised another Easter Bunny Fun Run.

The event will once again take place in Ferry Meadows, on Monday, April 22. The 3K distance is ideal for people of all ages, particularly children, to run or walk around parts of the park and hopefully enjoy good weather this year.

There will be prizes for the best bunny costumes and Easter bonnets.

Watch out for the chance to register. We hope you will come along and enjoy yourselves.
