First defeat on the road for Deeping Rangers
Deeping Rangers’ fine run away from home came to a stunning halt on Saturday.
The Clarets, unbeaten away all season in the UCL Premier Division, crashed 4-1 at table-topping Daventry and now trail the leaders by 11 points
Michael Goode’s side were hit by a three-goal blitz in the opening period as they suffered backto-back league losses for the first time this season following a home defeat against Rugby Town the previous week.
“We conceded a few silly free-kicks around the penalty area early on and they reacted first from one to take the lead,” said Goode.
“We then started to build up a little bit of momentum. They had the wind behind them in the first half and I thought that if we could go in at half-time just a goal down then we could come out and have a go at it.
“But we conceded a disastrous second goal on the half-hour and you could really see the heads drop after that.
“They then got a penalty which I felt was a poor call and, going in at 3-0 down, it was game over.
“They were stronger and more physical than us and we need to have a bit of re-grouping this week.”
This Saturday, Deeping are at home to Newport Pagnell, who smashed Peterborough Northern Star 4-0 at the weekend.
Holbeach and Pinchbeck, fourth and fifth in the table respectively, both enjoyed 1-0 wins on Saturday - Holbeach over Desbborough Town and Pinchbeck against Wellingborough Town.
Blackstones are fifth in Division One after a 3-2 win at Long Buckby on Tuesday night. Joe PapworthMoore, Josh Edmundson and Matt Simpson scored the Stones goals.
