A new competition

-

A totally new bowls competition is being proposed for the Peterborough area which has been initiated by the Bretton club.

It will consist of teams of four players from companies, organisations or groups and will be played on Wednesday evenings for a nine-week period between May 22 and July 17.

Matches will start at 7pm, with thirty minutes’ practice available before every match

Equipment will be provided so players will only need to bring along a pair of flat-soled shoes, such as trainers, and there will be no formal dress.

Entry fee per team is just £5, with a green fee of £3 per player for each match.

It is hoped to have a tenteam competition with the only restriction being that each team will only be allowed one player who is registered with teams in either the Peterborough League or Stamford League.

Anyone interested should contact either Andy on 01733 756452 or Trevor on 01733 268456 for more details.

■ The Cambridgeshire county indoor finals take place at the Cambridge Chesterton club this weekend.

Although there are no qualifiers from the Peterborough club, two Whittlesey-based players, Howard Shipp and Joe Randall, who play out of the Huntingdon club, will contest the pairs final on Saturday morning against host club pair Martin Pankhurst and Steve Jacobs.

■ The Peterborough & District senior men’s team were comfortable 83-51 (8-2) winners away to March B in the Cambs League and remain in sixth place.

Whittlesey shared the rink honours at home to third-placed March A, who have lost only once all season, but were beaten 58-82 (4-6) overall.
