‘Outstandin­g’ Sports are knocked off the top

Peterborou­gh Sports were knocked off the top of Division One Central of the Evo Stik Southern League despite delivering an outstandin­g display in awful playing conditions last weekend.

The city side conceded a 95th-minute equaliser at play-off chasing Didcot Town enabling Bromsgrove Sporting to move back into top spot.

Sports remain hot favourites for the title though as they are just a point behind with two games in hand ahead of Saturday’s home game with mid-table Barton Rovers (3pm). Sports area also at play-off chasing Thame next Tuesday (March 26).

“We were the better side all game in the worst conditions I’ve ever seen at a football match,” Sports boss Jimmy Dean stated. “If we play like that for the last nine games we won’t go far wrong.”

Dion Sembie-Ferris scored the Sports goal early in the second-half.

Yaxley slipped closer to the relegation zone after losing 3-1 at Sutton Coldfield Town. The Cuckoos are now just three points above the bottom two.

Wisbech and Spalding United are deep in relegation trouble in Division One East of the Northern Premier League after weekend defeats.

Spalding have a big at home to relegation rivals Stocksbrid­ge Park Steels on Saturday when Wisbech are at sixth-placed Ossett Town.

The Fenmen were beaten 2-1 at home by bottom club Gresley last weekend and lost 3-1 at Cleethorpe­s on Tuesday.
