Peterborough Athletic Club had most to celebrate at the annual Thorney 10k road race on Sunday.

The race was won by citybased Edgars Sumskis, who now runs for Newham and Essex Beagles, but it was PAC who raced off with both team titles.

Sumskis took the honours in 32:57 and in hot pursuit were three PAC men.

Shaun Walton was runnerup in 33:06, Phil Martin was third in 33.37 and Kirk Brawn fifth in 34:19 and that earned PAC a comfortable victory in the men’s team stakes.

And all three of them clocked big personal bests on the flat fenland course.

And, not to be outdone, there was teaam glory for the PAC women as well.

Daniella Hart, who has made huge improvements over recent months since joining PAC, led them home in first place.

She gauged her effort perfectly and came through the field to win in 39:46 to break the 40-minute barrier for the first time.

Next was the ever-consistent Sarah Caskey in fourth place in 40:09 with Wendy Perkins completing the scoring team in a personal best 46:34, which also won her the women’s individual Over 35 prize.

Hart won by just three seconds from March AC’s Toni Alcarez who herself was only two seconds clear of Ramsey’s Lisa Marriott.

Nene Valley’s Laura Grimer came in fifth and was first Over 40 in 41:01 with Cambridge and Coleridge’s former Werrington Jogger Ellie Swire next over the line in 41:29.

Two Werrington ladies won age group prizes. Roslyn Hamlyn was first Over 50 with 51:16 while Judith Thomas finished first Over 60 a minute ahead of Hamlyn.

Susan Pawson of Bushfield won the Over 65 award with a 59:29 clocking.

Back to the men and Helpston Harriers were the second team in, with sixth-placed Steve Robinson leading them home eight seconds behind Brawn.

Eleventh placed John Herbert clocked 35:00, with his Helpston team-mate Michael Moore three places back in 35:43.

Herbert picked up the prize for first Over 40 with fellow Helpston Harrier Jim Morris the first Over 50 after finishing 20th in 36:48.

Bushfield Jogger Scott Meadows had a good day finishing eighth in a new personal best of 34.27.

Eric Winstone, also running for Bushfield Joggers, predictably claimed the Over 65 prize with his 45:32 clocking. The junior 3km race saw Nene Valley Harriers athletes achieve a double with Dylan Tomaselli and Chelsie Bole the first boy and girl home.
