Ulfilas’ Alphabet (Chess Club/ RCA) Album

This is the second album from Reading fourpiece Sundara Karma who despite still being in their early 20s have been a band for nearly 10 years. Their 2017 debut album Youth Is Only Ever Fun In Restropect earned them critical acclaim and comparisons with the likes of Arcade Fire and Foals. The band consists of singer/ guitarist Oscar Pollock, lead guitarist Ally Baty, bassist Dom Cordell and drummer Haydn Evans. Their artful indie pop is powered by rave backbeats and on their second album there is an epic confidence about their songs. This album –named after a 4th Century Greek bishop who created his own alphabet in order to translate the Bible – is suitably ambitious and jaw-droppingly grand.
