- By Brad Barnes

ust a matter of weeks after the curtain went down on their raucous, smash-hit musical The Producers at The Key Theatre, Peterborough Operatic and Dramatic Society (PODS) are already gearing up for their next production, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang to be staged this time at The Cresset from October 22-26.

But, before anyone can do Me Ol’ Bamboo, take a trip to Hushabye Mountain or whistle on a toot sweet, award-winning theatre society PODS are on the hunt for some very important people as they search for talented and enthusiastic children to join the cast.

For this mammoth production of the ‘fantasmagorical’ musical for all the

Jfamily, PODS are holding open auditions for youngsters who love to sing, dance and act on Sunday, April 14th.

Here they’ll be looking to cast both the principal parts of Jeremy and Jemima Potts as well as an ensemble of youngsters to play the children of Vulgaria who have been hidden in the cellars of the castle by the child-hating Baron Bomburst.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for children in the city to get involved in what’s going to be one of the biggest productions PODS have ever done, featuring lots of spectacular song and dance numbers from the Sherman Brothers’ score, a real flying car and even

a cast of dogs!” says Rob Bristow, Chairman of PODS and Director and Choreographer of Chitty.

“We are roughly looking for children aged 9-13 who can commit to regular rehearsals between April and October, including show week which is October half term.”

Parents can find out more information and register their child’s interest by emailing PODS Secretary Hannah Ogden on peterborough-operatic@hotmail. co.uk
