Peterborough Lions roar . . . but sadly not all the way home

- By Bob French bob.french@jpress.co.uk

Peterborough Lions supporters - and there were plenty of them who turned out in the balmy sunshine - were treated to a cracking game of rugby at Bretton on Saturday.

No less than seven tries arrived in the space of 20 crazy first-half minutes at Solstice Park as two sets of Lions battled it out in National League Two North.

And the rock-bottom and relegated Peterborough Lions outscored the Leicester Lions 4-3 on tries during that touchdown bonanza to turn round with a deserved interval lead of 22-17.

Unfortunately for the home fans what happened next wasn’t quite so hot. The Peterborough Lions lost their way - and Aki Lea to a red card - and ended up losing 52-29. Oadby this weekend and then on the last day Oundle visit ONs and Oadby take on promotion-chasing Paviors.

Borough are expecting a big crowd for their final home match against Melton Mowbray with the annual past players pre-match luncheon sure to considerably boost the attendance.

Borough play Bedford Athletic in the East Midlands Cup final at Bedford Blues’ ground on Tuesday April 30 (7.30pm). Admission is £5 per person with under 16s £2 each. Gates open at 6pm.
