Gillingham boss Steve Lovell is looking beyond survival.

Lovell doesn’t want his side to scrape to safety – he’s keen on beating last season’s efforts when the Gills finished 17th in League One with 56 points.

“It would be nice to get to the 56 points before the last few games,” Lovell said. “And then try to beat that. If we do, we could finish halfway up the table.

“In the last three games we’ve shown we can play any way to get a result. “We played a Luton team who love to play football and tactically we had to be right. We had to match Wimbledon for endeavour and then use the ball on a nice pitch. Last weekend it was 90 minutes of sheer blood, guts and determination.”
