The Peterborough Evening Telegraph
Showing reality to ‘Walt Disney’ fans
Reaction to my latest columns...
I believe parachute payments should be stopped or shared amongst all EFL clubs.
@14obrien14
We (Sunderland) still have players on Premier League wages and we’ve had a massive overhaul of players, way we do things etc.
Will Grigg was a panic buy. It’s not always that easy to correct the slide. Obviously we should go up, but don’t get people saying we should be clear by 20 points already.
@jlawson1993
I was told by a Sunderland fan how they ‘haven’t really spent that much this season... only about £7million’.
@RMWC82
£1.7 billion shared between 20 teams. Some players paid £350k a week. A WEEK! Too much money in football? @oohkhaleesi
Re Posh article: Having a sense of perspective is always preferable to having a sense of entitlement. @TPEmag
Excellent piece re Posh, adds reality to all those Walt Disney fans who spout off. @gj1023
So- called fans who constantly call out the Posh chairman should be very careful what they wish for.
@john6anderson
A must-read for all Posh fans. Alan Swann writes sense and encourages realism about Peterborough United and the club’s current situation.
@TobyWoody
Posh over-achieve most seasons. Fans need to get real.
@Bluboy87 More proof of what Posh are up against this season arrived with the publication of agents fees for the last 12 months. Sunderland spent a barely believable £2.8 million - six times more than any other League One club - as they set about trying to win promotion from League One. They spent an astonishing £4 million on Will Grigg (above) in January, a player they’ll have to discard next season as he can’t hack it at Championship level.
That’s if Sunderland manage to get up. They probably will thanks to Kieffer Moore’s injury at Barnsley, but if they didn’t it would be the biggest cock-up in League One history as Sunderland also benefit from Premier League parachute payments, a considerable sum which is basically a reward for failure.
A GREAT SPORTING SPECTACLE
I hope connections change their mind and allowTiger Roll (above) the chance to enter the history books by winning a third Grand National in a row. The Aintree race remains one of the great sporting spectacles in this country, not as good as the Cheltenham National Hunt Festival, but not far off.
A PITIFUL SPORTING SPECTACLE
The Boat Race is one of the most pointless sporting spectacles. How much money do the BBC waste on a two-horse race?
A PITIFUL SPORTING SPECTACLE
Local footballers never cease to amaze. Last weekend one was heard complaining about an ‘over-aggressive referee’. The official in question is 70 years old and 5ft 6ins tall.
