Vikki puts the fun in fundraising!

- A monthly look back and forward from your local radio station – PCR 103.2FM

How has your November been? Full of fireworks and fun we hope. Yes, Christmas is around the corner, Bonfire Night and Halloween are behind us. England are unfortunately not World Champions at Rugby (well done to The Springboks!) and its freezing cold in the studio at PCR! Hopefully someone will put another bob in the meter!

We need the electricity for all the live acts that come through the door – Peterborough’s Most Wanted on Monday nights played host to Graham Cleaver on November 11, and we have Dan Knight, Pot Luck and Rain Bird on the show in the next few weeks, while Thursday Night’s Doc Mason Show has seen Hedgehog Reality, The Phonic Shock and Naturally

Sourced live in the studio.

In late October (seems an AGE ago) Vikki Harold was a studio guest on The LockIn Radio Show (Wednesdays, 7.00pm until 9.00pm). Vikki, has a ghoulish sideline from her day job – she’s the organiser of The Peterborough Zombie Walk. The walk took place on Saturday, November 2 – all ‘Zombies’ started at Charters Bar at 5.00pm and dragged themselves through the city centre to reach their final resting place at The Argo Lounge.

Vikki (pictured with LockIn Presenter Marc Rigarlsford) shared stories about past Zombie Walks, spoke about organising the event, and highlighted its rise in popularity; the numbers of people who dress up and cover themselves in latex and fake blood has significantly grown, year on year. Apart from the fun and community element of the event, the ‘zombies’ also raise money for charity. This year’s charity is ‘Safer Off The Streets’. More details are available on the Peterborough Zombie Walk’s Facebook page and if you wish to donate, they have a Just Giving page: justgiving.com/ crowdfunding/pzw2019

Alternatively, if you’re ever in the city centre when the walk takes place and you spot a zombie with a bucket, just throw some cash in it and the zombie will shuffle away …

Speaking of ‘Safer Off The Streets’, the Drivetime Show, sponsored by The New Theatre on Broadway, interviewed Christine Graham, chair of the Partnership, who highlight the plight of rough sleepers in the city. Official figures show 29 rough sleepers on our city streets, from a survey done in 2018. Now doesn’t 29 seem surprisingly low? And it gives hope that helping these people is achievable. One way, is to donate from the ‘Safer Off The Streets’ Amazon Wish List – details of which are located at www.saferoffthestreets. co.uk.

Christine took time to explain that sometimes members of the public and businesses make donations, but their good intentions are often misguided, hence the need for a co-ordinated partnership scheme to make sure the correct support is given. All the details of how to help are on the website.

And finally, well done to all the competition winners this month, those who enjoyed a great night out dancing to Shalamar at the New Theatre, and to Ian, who was the winner of £1500 towards a new sofa courtesy of our friends at the Sofology Store on Brotherhood Retail Park.

Have you a local community story you think we should be talking about, get in touch on www.pcrfm. co.uk, and give us a listen on 103.2FM – we are Live and Local in Peterborough.
