The Peterborough & District men’s and women’s teams were both beaten in the opening round of their respective national club plate competitions.
Peterborough men were beaten 103-54 by Stamford in the Denny Plate – the competition for first round losers in the mainstream Denny Cup – while the women lost 87-70 to Melton & District in the Yetton Plate.
Having pushed their A team all the way to the line in their opening Derbyshire Trophy fixture, Northants B came down to earth with a bump against Norfolk at Peterborough & District on Sunday.
They had taken four points from their own A team, who were defending the English Bowling Federation’s indoor inter-county championship, but were unable to get on the scoresheet against a strong Norfolk team that coasted to a 148-54 victory, which included a 50-4 win on one rink.
Meanwhile, the A team return to action on Sunday (2pm) when North Cambs are the visitors to Stamford.
Northants B 54 (0), Norfolk 148 (14): John Holroyd, Cliff Watson, Mick Duell lost 22-36; Les Sharp, Ray Keating, Mick Linnell lost 13-36; Jeff Clipston, Brian Bassam, Dick Noble lost 15-26; Melvyn Beck, Mick Greaves, Malcolm Squires lost 4-50.
Peterborough & District inflicted a first defeat of the season on Cambs Senior League leaders Cambridge Chesterton B, winning 81-53 for a 7-3 points verdict.
Whittlesey were on the wrong end of a 10-0 defeat away to Huntingdon A, who registered an 89-47 victory.
More than 170 people • attended the Peterborough
Bowls League’s annual presentation dinner held at the Parkway club.
President Gordon Stirman (City of Peterborough) presented the trophies, with no fewer than four of them going to the Blackstones club.
They won the midweek first division title, retained the Club 60 Premier League and also claimed the Premier
Division crown in the weekend league.
On top of that they won the Mick Lewin Trophy to complete a Club 60 double and were also runners-up in the Albert Rowlett Cup.
It means Blackstones will be playing in the Midweek Premier Division for the first time having won four league titles in a row to reach their goal.
