70 COPS race away and do not come up short
Swimming - Skills executed in competitive arena
A team of 70 City of Peterborough swimmers (COPS) took part in the Norwich Short Course Meet at the UEA Norwich Bernard Matthews Pool.
Theperformancesquadswimmers used the event as racing training and a lot swam as ‘exhibition swims’ as they were too fast for the meet.
For the development squad and junior swimmers it was a learning experience, a chance to get some competitive racing and develop their race skills, such as starts, turns and finishes.
Stars of the show were 10 year-old Lily-Rose Carr, 11 year-old Vanesa Cimenova, 12 year-old Lara Treharne, 13 year-old Jamie Peacock and 14 year-old George Whiteman.
They all delivered personal best swims with excellent race skills and not only won medal accolades along with their team-mates, but also won personal recognition from the coaching team for their excellent skills.

Swimmers won top team, whilst George Whiteman finished third in the top male swimmer award and Lily Davis finished second in the top female swimmer award.
The club’s head coach Ben Negus was delighted. He said: “This has been a great meet for us.
“We came here to learn about our race skills, how well our athletes could execute them in the race arena and what we can take away with us to learn for Winter National Championships or our own COPS meet in one month’s time.
“Our athletes did a very good job and are showing promise in their attitude towards improving their skills, before worrying about results and at the same time coming away with some very positive results.”
