Oakey top in year of outstanding performances
PACTRAC athletes held their annual meeting and prize presentation on Saturday with 16 trophies being awarded. These were presented to: Club champion Andy Corner, club ladies Champion SusieFreeman,vetclubchampion Andy Corner, ladies vet club champion Willow Worthington, supervet club champion Steve Hope and ladies supervet club champion Sue Davys.
Mini-series winner was Aaron Godden. Ladies miniSeries – Susie Freeman, Junior – Jonathan Arnold, mid-distance – Andy Corner, standard-distance – Tony Daniels, duathlon – Jonny Hynes.
The ‘Outstanding Performance’ award went to Jonathan Oakey for winning the National Junior Super Series outright. He has forced his way to the very top of the UK junior rankings.
Other outstanding performances included:
Roger Canham, who won two world championship gold medals in the World Long Course and Challenge Championships.
Susie Freeman, who was first lady and second overall intheAskeenasmustardSwim Run at Grafham Water.
Paul Lunn, 3X Ironman. twice in the top 10 mini-series all time best results. Twice broke the mini-series bike split record.
Terry Murphy, who set an Ironman PB at Copenhagen. was first in his age group, qualifiying for Ironman World Championships in Hawaii.
Jonathan Ratcliffe, who has now swam six of the seven swims that make upthe Ocean Challenge. This year he did the Tsugarustrait in Japan and the
Catalina Channel in California. He has a window from December 1-9 for the 14-mile Cook Strait in New Zealand, which will complete the challenge.
Best novice was Jake Daniels who competed in five mini-series races and recorded five PBs, taking his time down from 64:25 to 56:33.
Most improved, Roger Canham had a good claim on this, having won two world championships. It is easier to improve quickly when you first come into a sport, but Roger has been around for many years and has still managed to improve.
PACTRAC-er of the Year Terry Murphy has guided the club races this year as race director, and had a major part in promoting the first Peterborough Schools Triathlon in June.
