The Prem’s biggest waste of money

- Chief sports writer Alan Swann shares his views

Here’s my rundownof the Premier League clubs with almost a third of the season gone. 1) Liverpool: They are comfortably the best and luckiest side in the competition. It’s funny how often those things go hand in hand. I’ll be happy for Jurgen Klopp when they win the title, less happy for their unbearable fans.

2) Leicester: My team of the season so far. Great to watch, superbly organised, better than when they won the title. Brendan Rodgers has won me over as a manager.

3) Chelsea: Superb to see young English players thriving under a young English manager. Not sure they will last the pace, but a joy so far.

4) Manchester City: Pep Guardiola’s ego has cost them dear. You are allowed to sign defenders who just defend, expecially when your alternatives are the likes of John Stones and Kyle Walker.

5) Sheffield United: Remarkable so far under gifted manager Chris Wilder, but they are just six points off 17th place so best not to get too carried away. Can’t possibly finish in the top half of the table.

6) Arsenal: I like Unai Emery, but anyone who signs David Luiz to bolster a defence has serious shortcomings.

7) Manchester United: They’d be second now under a decent manager, but Harry Maguire (right) must be the most overpriced defender in history. Leicester aren’t missing him.

8) Wolves: Well coached. Nuno Espírito Santo has even turned Road Runner Adama Traore into a player.

9) Bournemouth: The billionaire-backed club still trying to pass themselves off as plucky underdogs have reached their peak.

10) Burnley: The ugliest side in the division. Just horrible to watch.

11) Brighton: Freed from Chris Hughton’s negativity, they’ve been impressive under Graham Potter.

12) Crystal Palace: A team in need of a more progressive, ambitious boss. I suspect Wilfried Zaha agrees.

13) Newcastle: Currently proving Rafa Benitez wasn’t that good. Steve Bruce doesn’t whinge as much either.

14) Spurs: Well done getting rid of moody manager Mauricio Pochettino, but replacing him with moody Jose Mourinho is a massive mistake.

15) Everton: Over-rated, negative manager with no reliable forwards at his disposal and the dreadful Michael Keane at the back.

16) West Ham: Currently proving the need (like Man City) to always have a worthy back-up goalkeeper.

17) Aston Villa: Splashing cash guarantees nothing, especially if you throw it at the likes of Wesley Moraes.

18) Watford: Deserve to go down for the way they treat managers.

19) Southampton: Deserve to go down because they can’t wait to cash in on their better players.

20) Norwich: Deserve to go down because they are out of their depth. A shame, as manager Daniel Farke is an impressive character.
