Hotshot Jeorgia Carr’s return to City of Peterborough Ladies has been key to the first XI’s terrific start to the East Premier A Division campaign.

Carr did head off to the United States after winning a football scholarship, but the athletic hockey striker is back at Bretton Gate and banging the goals in.

Last Saturday she grabbed a hat-trick in a 4-1 win over Maidstone which consolidated third place for a team many expected to struggle this season after the departure of some senior players.

But some second-team regulars from last season have stepped up impressively including Jess Broadway who scored her first goal for the first team against Maidstone.

City will expect to maintain their lofty position as they travel to struggling Upminster on Saturday.

It’s not looking quite so • rosy for City of Peterborough’s men in their first season as a National League Division One side.

They were outclassed by leaders Durham University at Bretton Gate over the weekend, losing 6-0 to a talented outfit.

City rarely troubled Durham offensively, but goalkeeper Cameron Goodey and Josh Heyworth, a Stamford School student, delivered excellent defensive displays.

City can’t dwell on that defeat for too long as they have a key game at Sheffield Hallam this Saturday. Sheffield are the only team City have beaten so far this season.

•City of Peterborough sevenths lost for the first time this season, 1-0 at home to St Neots thirds, but still lead Division Six of the Men’s East League.

City fifths are second in Division

Four after pipping Cambridge Nomads 3-2.

Phil Martin scored four as City sixths whacked Bourne Deeping fourths 6-1 and Gary Hales grabbed a hat-trick as City thirds drew 4-4 with Spalding seconds.

•Bour■e Deeping moved clear of the relegation places in the East Premier B Division with a 2-1 win over Waltham Forest.

Spalding have slipped into mid-table after they lost narrowly at home, 4-3 to leaders Letchworth despite a hat-trick from Stuart Cunnington.
