It’s the last World of Sport column of 2019 so here are my predictions for 2020. Some of them are deadly serious.
JANUARY
England lose Test series 3-0 in South Africa after Jimmy Anderson breaks down on the first morning of the first Test.
Andy Murray wins Australian Open after matches are shortened to best of three sets by the heatwave down under.
Michael van Gerwen wins the ODC World Darts title and is installed at 3/1 favourite to be BBC Sports Personality of the Year for 2020.
FEBRUARY
Lewis Hamilton (right) wins the Australian Grand Prix driving a Williams just to prove he is the best F1 driver and not reliant on a fast car.
MARCH
England complete a Six Nations Grand Slam after signing six All Blacks with English great grandparents.
Aiden O’Brien trains the winner of the Cheltenham Gold Cup after animal rights activists successfully lobby to have the fences removed from National Hunt meetings.
APRIL
Brooks Koepka wins the US Masters after Rory McIlroy blows a five-shot lead with six holes to play.
MAY
Liverpool complete a Premier League, FA Cup, Champions League treble. Twitter explodes.
Posh win the League One play-off final, 3-0 against Wycombe as Marcus Maddison signs off at London Road with a hat-trick before joining Newcastle on a free transfer.
JUNE
Lewis Hamiton wins the French Grand Prix in a hearse.
JULY
England lose 6-0 to Belgium in the European Championships semi-final after deciding to man-mark Eden Hazard with Fabian Delph.
Andy Murray wins the
Wimbledon mens doubles with brother Jamie and the mixed doubles with mum Judy.
AUGUST
Liverpool’s defence of the Premier league title gets off to a disastrous start after Boris Johnson passes a law punishing diving with a jail sentence.
SEPTEMBER
USA beat Europe easily in the Ryder Cup after removing all rough and bunkers from the course and making each hole 700 yards long.
OCTOBER
Lewis Hamilton wins the US Grand Prix in a milk float.
NOVEMBER
England win the T20 World Cup. Ex-Market Deeping man Pat Brown is named man-ofthe competition.
DECEMBER
Posh go top of the Championship with a 3-0 win at Derby thanks to a hat-trick from summer signing Jack Marriott.
