FIVE THINGS FOR YOUR WEEK...

-

Made in Dagenham BBC Four, 10.30pm, Saturday

Female employees making upholstery for a 1960s British car firm campaign for the right to equal pay, only for the company to declare their work ‘unskilled’. The women embark on a national protest, taking their grievance all the way to the government and demanding a change in the law. You might be expecting an Essex Girls comedy from the Sid James back-catalogue, but this is a surprisingly moving and well put-together look at an important part of British history, shot through with enough humour and pathos to ensure something for everybody. Sally Hawkins,

Bob Hoskins, Miranda Richardson and Rosamund Pike star.

Homecoming

Prime Video, from Monday

The first series of the psychological thriller was released to much fanfare in 2018, mostly because it starred Julia Roberts, an actor who had largely steered clear of TV until then. Based on the podcast of the same name, it was critically acclaimed, so we’re pleased to see it return for a second run. However, there’s no Roberts this time around. Instead, the storyline is completely different and contains a largely new cast, headed by Janelle Monae. She plays a young woman who wakes in a rowboat adrift in a lake, but with no memory of who she is or how she got there; her search for her identity forms the heart of the plot. Also joining the programme are Chris Cooper and Joan Cusack.

ITV Football Classics ITV, 5pm, Saturday

A chance to relive the breathtaking World Cup quarter final between England and Cameroon at Italia 90. With the swagger of Paul Gascoigne and the feel-good factor emanating from their camp after David Platt’s extra-time winner against Belgium in the previous round, England were heavy favourites to progress to the semis. However, Cameroon had already become the first African side through to the last eight in the competition’s history, and with 38-year-old Roger Milla in their ranks, the Lions fancied their chances of pulling off a shock in the sweltering heat of Naples.
