SPECIAL GOODBYE FOR YEAR 6 PUPILS

Children said an emotional farewell to their primary school this week with a special ‘drive thru’ leavers celebration.

On Monday, Orton Wistow Primary School ensured that their Year 6 pupils had an event to remember.

Year 6 teachers Rachel Tansley and Joanne Simmons-worked hard to arrange a ‘Drive Thru’, for 60 children who are leaving the school to move to a secondary school.

During their Walk of Pride, the children were clapped by staff, had their photographs taken in a special photo booth, received a yearbook and autograph book, their leavers’ hoodie as well as their belongings. Staff also arranged for a Pride winner to receive their trophy in their bag as well. The children also had the chance to see a film which showed their time at the school. The film featured an adapted version of Time of Our Lives sung by a member of Year Six.

Pupil Emily-Rose Cunnington said: “The school and teachers made us feel special.” Classmate Maisie Hutchings said: “The way the teachers made it feel was the feeling of having one door opened as one shut – it was magical.”

Mrs Simmons said: “I think that the Year Six Leavers’ Drive-Thru exceeded our expectations. It has been a combination of hard work and teamwork, which has also embodied lockdown for people working in education over the last few weeks. It has been lovely to see the children and their families, some of whom have also been on a journey with us for the last seven years.”
