Borough back in touch with competitive sport
Competitive rugby returned to Fengate last weekendinthe form of a mixed touch rugby event organised by Peterborough RUFC.
Eight teamstookpart in an event set up by the club’s new head coach, Shane Manning.
“We organised this event with eight teams from across all the sections of the club,” Manning said. “Everyone was keen to get back to safe competition.”
Club chairman Alan Graham added: “The club was really pleased with everyone’s efforts to get back to playing and trying to implement England Rugby’s phaseDofthereturn to play continuum.
“We thought the best way to test the club’s efforts to make us Covid safe was to deliver an event.
“The day went brilliantly and we are now confident enough to invite other local clubs to Fengate in the coming weeks.”
The club have yet to learn
whentheirMidlandsDivision season will start.
John Sismey has been named Borough’s clubman of the year in recognition of
manyyearsofserviceasaplayer, coach and administrator.
Sismeywasaprolificwinger who has scored more tries than any other player in the history of the club.
Sismey has also coached the academyoverrecentyearsand was responsible for the clubs O2 touch centre status.
Healsoorganisestheannual former players’ lunch.
“Johnis anincredible individual and is everything that is good about rugby. We are lucky to have people like him involved in ourclub,” said club president Andrew Burgess.
