Promoted teams all enjoy a cracking start to the season
The four teams promoted into the Peterborough Premier Division all showed they belonged with excellent opening day results.
Cardea, Crowland Town and Stilton United all won, while EyeUnitedearnedacreditable home draw with Uppingham Town.
Thomas Klinkovics scored twice and Kieran Hart also netted in Cardea’s 3-1 home win over Leverington Sports, while Martin Sandall, Chris Winstanley and Jake Woodward were the men on the mark for Crowland in a 3-0 win over Oakham at Snowden’s Field.
Veteran midfielder Aly Nyang claimed the only goal of the game as Stilton pipped Long Sutton and Andy Buckle and Alex McNally scored in Eye’s 2-2 draw at Lindisfarne Road.
Title favourites Netherton United eased to a 4-0 win at Ketton as debutants Ryan Pratt, Alfie Ferguson and Charlie Willis all scored.
Pratt and Ferguson moved across the city fromPeterborough North End Sports in the
summer, while Willis (16) is a Netherton youth team player. Skipper Fraser Sturgess also nettedforNethertonwhohost UppinghamattheGrangethis Saturday.
Netherton were leading an exciting race for the topflight title last season when
the coronavirus crisis caused an early end to the campaign.
“It was a solid win and Charlie scored with a great header,” Netherton boss Jon Harrison said.
“It’s an aim of the club to bring youth players through this season. There is a lot of
young talent at the club.
“It was actually just nice to get back into a dressing room again as well!”
North End Sports, now under the management of former Thorney boss Tom Florence, were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw at Holbeach
