Gyollai to the rescue after gaffes

-

In a game of goalkeeping gaffes it was rather comforting whenthis EFLTrophytie went to penalties.

Posh back-up Dan Gyollai made two blunders that were punished by goals in the match itself, while Burton’s 17 year-old number one Teddy Sharman-Lowe handled the ball throughout like a bar of soap.

But with the matchtied at 3-3after90minutesapenalty shootout ensued to see who would collect an extra point whichmeantone‘keeperwas likely to redeem himself.

Luckily for Posh that was Gyollai although he only had to fall on Ciaran Gilligan’s penalty, the10thoftheshootout and the only one not to find the back of the net.

Harrison Burrows, Ethan Hamilton, LouisReed, MoEisa and Flynn Clarke all converted their spot kicks to give Posh victory after an entertainingeveningattheWeston Homes Stadium.

Burton missed a sitter in the second minute before Posh opened the scoring within 60secondsasClarke’s tame poke at goal squirmed through Sharman-Lowe.

Reed’s excellent free kick from 22 yards made it 2-0 midway through the firsthalf andIdris Kanu, Burrows andSerhatTasdemirallcame close to stretching the lead before Steven Lawless pulled a goal back for the visitors on the stroke of half-time.

Gyollai wasthenbeatenat his near post soon after the re-start by a free kick taken out wide by Joe Powell and the same player’s shot from theedgeoftheareasomehow slipped out of the Posh‘keeper’s grasp just three minutes later to give Burton the lead.

Poshrespondedwellwith Niall Mason heading home a Burrows cross for 3-3 with still 23 minutes to play, but no futher goals arrived until the lottery of a penalty kick competition.

For Posh the midfield t hree o f Ethan Hamil - ton, Reed and Clarke were oustanding, while there was a pleasing 45 minutes from striker JonsonClarke-Harris as he continues to work himself towards full fitness.
