Rejecting two of the biggest clubs in League One in favour of re-joining Posh was a nobrainer of a decision for Sammie Szmodics.

The return of Szmodics from Championship side Bristol City this week was greeted with great joy by Posh manager Darren Ferguson and the club’s fans, as well as the 24 year-0ld attacking midfielder himself.

Szmodicshassignedafouryear contract after playing 10 games on loan at the Weston Homes Stadium last season. Poshhavepaidanundisclosed fee believed to be around the million pound mark.

“I loved it here last season when we were robbed of promotion andI told the gaffer if I didcomebacktoLeagueOneit would with Peterborough. He showed a lot of faith in me last season and I enjoyed playing for him.

“I went back to Bristol City

not knowing what the future held for me there with a new manager, but once I found out whereI stood I got myagentto contact Peterborough.

“It took a while to get over the line, but I’m delighted it’s doneandthebandisnowback together!

“We definitely have some unfinished business and I can’t wait to get started again.

“I’m probably fitter now than when I came here last season. I played three pre-season games for City and I want to hit the ground running at Accrington on Saturday.

“It’s an exciting time. I feel like I’ve never been away.”

Ferguson wasthrilled to finally land a player he believes will bekeyto a successful promotion push.

“I said we were 95% there with the squad, well now it’s 100%,” Ferguson enthused.

“Sammie showed what a top player he was last season and he also has an infectious personality that lifts the dressing room. It’s a massive signing for us.”
