Borough boys have started preparing for next season

-

Peterborough RUFC have started preparations for the 2021-22 season.

Head coach Shane Manning was delighted to see a terrific turnout of senior players attend a training session as soon as covid restrictions were relaxed last week.

The entire 2020-21 season at Borough’s level was abandoned because of the pandemic.

Borough have arranged friendlies against Stamford at first and second team level on May 1 (home) and May 14 (away).

The city side have also arranged a second team friendly at Milton Keynes on May 8.

Manning said: “We are going to be training twice a week for seven weeks and also play a couple of friendlies. We will then take five weeks off before starting pre-season on June 22.

“We had 35-plus guys at the first training session and it was really good to get back into it and the lads trained hard.

“You could see how happy they were to be back and with a couple of fixtures coming up there is lots of competition for places. Of course there is always room for more players so everyone is welcome.

“It goes without saying that all training is in line with the RFU and Government covid guidelines so everyone is safe.”

Borough train on Tuesdays and Thursdays (7.309pm) at their base on Second Drove, Fengate.

Borough are scheduled to start their Midlands Division One East season on September 5.

The city side are in a powerful competition that also involves city rivals Peterborough Lions and longtime foes Kettering.

Borough also run successful womens, girls, veterans and boys teams.

They have recently added a touch rugby section to the club.
