Proposed closure of leisure centre

-

Fellow people of Stamford and Bourne, and surrounding areas . Please may I ask you a question? Councillor Barry Dobson (deputy leader of SKDC) and others are proposing that upon the closure of Deepings Leisure Centre (dependant on next week’s vote), all the school children that are required to learn to swim under Government guidelines will now be going out to Stamford and Bourne Pools to meet this requirement . Are you happy with this decision?

Are you happy with your own over-stretched leisure centres taking on more commitments and so decreasing the time you can use your own facilities ? Not to mention all the public swimming sessions that will get over capacity and thus require restricted numbers. This also applies to all the other

indoor sports that you as the public use.

Are you happy with the increase in traffic to your local areas?

Barry Dobson signed off this building conditions report as a true and accurate report and in doing so used it as a method of explaining how the closure is justified by the £1.2 million required to repair the building.

How can it be that figures are duplicated? Treatment to external cladding - £39,484 Resurface car park and access road - £39,484 Replacement fire doors £39,484

Is this purely coincidental that these costings are accurate to the pound?

Or is it that Barry Dobson would rather see the building condemned and walk away from his responsibilities as that would be the easier option to do so than invest some time into correcting his party’s work?

I’ll let you form your own opinions on that, but these are not the only duplicated figures in the report, there

are many.

At best this is wholly inaccurate and not a true reflection of what it will cost and by the way many of these figures are not critical to get the facility reopened . The figure of £684,451 to get the roof repaired is also inaccurate and could be slashed by at least a third, according to a local contractor.

This does not just affect the town folk of Deeping, this affects all of us!

Protect our local facilities. Please contact your local councillors and demand some answers . We all deserve to be treated with respect and given the true facts not the fiction that has been told.
